Save the Light had a ceremony on October 1, 2016 to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the first lighting of the lighthouse.
The location was the Lighthouse Inlet Beach at the end of East Ashley Ave on Folly Beach. It started at 7PM with a few speeches and a check presentation by Betty and John O’Brien for their $250,000 donation to name the foyer of the lighthouse in memory of their granddaughter Ashley Monique Campbell. SCE&G generously donated time and materials to set up a solar powered generator at the lighthouse and to string lights in the windows of the lantern room. The lights were lit remotely from the beach at 7:30PM and stayed lit until 11:30PM.
The event was free and open to the public.
WCIV Channel 4 produced a short video and an article about the upcoming event.
