150th Celebration Art Contest

Calling all artists, photographers, designers, and creatives! The Morris Island Lighthouse turns 150 this year, and we want to celebrate with you. 

 

Save the Light is hosting an art contest open to all ages and skill levels. We’re looking for an original design featuring the Morris Island Lighthouse — and the winning artwork will be featured on the back of our limited edition 150th Celebration tee, sold at our 150th Celebration event this October at Bowens Island Restaurant.

 

The winning designer will receive bragging rights, recognition at the event, and the honor of having their artwork represent this milestone moment in the Morris Island Lighthouse’s history.

Rules & Requirements

  • Entries must have been produced solely by the individual who enters the submission and must be an original design.
  • Save the Light reserves the right to refuse to judge any artwork deemed unfit or objectionable.
  • Entrant must follow all design requirements and specifications. Entries not conforming to these rules, requirements, and specifications will be disqualified. 
  • This contest is open to all ages and skill levels. No design experience needed!
  • All submitted digital works will not be returned. Physical artwork will be returned at the expense of the submitter. 
  • The winner will grant permission to Save the Light, Inc. to use the artwork for t-shirt production and general advertising (ex., social media, website, and newsletter).
  • Entries may be displayed at the Save the Light – Morris Island Lighthouse 150th Celebration event on October 18, 2026.
  • Employees, board of directors, or advisory board members of Save The Light, Inc. are not eligible to participate.
  • By submitting their artwork, entrant certifies that the submission is their own work and they agree to the General Rules of the contest. 

Design Requirements

  • Artwork must be ORIGINAL and solely the work of the submitter. 
  • Artwork can be photography, drawing, painting, or graphic design.
  • Design must include the Morris Island Lighthouse in its entirety or a portion where it can easily be recognised as the Morris Island Lighthouse. 
  • Both red and white stripes, or the originally painted black and white stripes on the lighthouse, will be accepted.

Design Specifications

  • Maximum Design Area: 12 inches wide x 12 inches tall
  • Preferred File Formats, If Digital: .AI, .EPS, .PDF., .SVG, or high-resolution PNG (300 dpi minimum). If submitting in .AI, .EPS, .SVG, or .PNG, must also include a copy in .PDF for judges
  • Digital designs should be on a transparent background

How to Submit Your Design

The submission must include your name, age (if under 18 years old), mailing address, email, phone number, and a short description of the design.

Note: Physical artwork will be returned at the submitter’s expense. Digital files will not be returned.

Judging Rubric

Judging will occur in early July, and the winner will be notified by email no later than the end of July. Judging will be done by the Save the Light Board of Directors based on the following criteria.
